East Coast Leadership Retreat

Published on September 11, 2023

This August we held a leadership retreat in Wise Va where we talked about what our identity is as a fraternity and what is our purpose. Through these conversations I was very encouraged to hear that our east coast chapters have a good grasp on why they exist which includes being set apart from the world, a community deeper than any church or campus ministry group, and a group that cultivates and develops leaders. We also had the opportunity to talk about what specific role each chapter fills on their campus including, evangelism/service projects, mens community, or deeper, more intentional bible studies. We also had a workshop on how we approach rush, focusing on how to find potential new members and what strategies have worked over the last year. After this session, rather than going off on a hike or playing volleyball, they all chose to take out their phones and laptops and start to apply what we had discussed. Building out their Pnm lists, making flyers for social media and utilizing their instagram to reach out to men on their campus. “To see the chapter's enthusiasm and determination to work diligently to see overall chapter health enhanced and a successful rush come to fruition, further ignited my hope and excitement for the chapters!”

The overall attitude about this weekend was that it was a much needed break to prevent our chapters from just going through the motions. These types of events give the opportunity to have some harder conversations about the health of each chapter, where they may be falling short of their potential and where they want to improve. Facilitating conversations about goals and where we aspire to take this fraternity reminds our chapter leaders why they continue to pour their time and effort into leading their chapters and building up men of Alpha Gamma Omega so they can go out into the world and make disciples.
